🌿 Part 6 of the Burnout to Balance Series 🌿
This post is part of my Burnout to Balance series, where I share my personal journey through burnout, the lessons I’ve learned, and practical tips for reclaiming energy, clarity, and balance in everyday life. In this post, I’m exploring the subtle signs that I was recovering from burnout — and the moments that pulled me back in.

I almost didn’t write this post.
When I planned my Burnout to Balance series, I thought by now I’d be fully on the “balance” side of things — rested, thriving, organized, maybe even one of those people who “has it all together.”
And for a while, I really was doing great.
During the summer, I could actually feel myself coming out of burnout.
I was saying no to extra shifts. I wasn’t a travel agent yet, so I wasn’t juggling multiple businesses. I finally had space to breathe. I started writing again — something I hadn’t done in months — and it actually felt good. I wanted to write, to read, to sit outside and just be. My brain didn’t feel foggy all the time. Decisions came easier. I felt lighter, happier, and more myself.
Looking back, those were the signs I was coming out of burnout — even if I didn’t recognize them at the time.
The Subtle Signs of Healing I Missed at First
When I think back to that time, the signs were small but powerful:
- I stopped feeling guilty for resting.
- I could actually enjoy my free time again.
- My brain felt clear instead of chaotic.
- I laughed more, stressed less.
- I started to feel capable again — like I could take on the world.
And, of course, that’s when I made the classic recovering-from-burnout move…
I tried to take on the world.
The Slip Back Into Burnout
I started blogging more consistently and added a new side business as a travel agent (which I genuinely love). Then the kids went back to school, fall sports picked up, and suddenly our schedule was nonstop.
I’m not even sure what pushed me over the edge — maybe it wasn’t one big thing, but the combination of everything.
Lately, I’ve noticed some familiar signs creeping back in:
- That heavy feeling of overwhelm.
- The return of brain fog.
- Decision fatigue — where even “What’s for dinner?” feels like too much.
- Feeling more tired, even after a full night’s sleep.
The difference this time is that I see it happening. I recognize the signs sooner.
And honestly? That’s growth.
Trying to Find Balance (Again)
Right now, I don’t want to give up the things I love — my blog, my travel business, my family time — but I am trying to find better balance between them all.

I know I can’t keep everything in my head, so I’ve been trying to get organized again. I read The Cure for Procrastination, and it had some great tips. The author recommended Todoist for task management, so I’ve been setting up recurring tasks for everything — from business to personal life, cleaning routines, even the little things I usually forget.
My hope is that by getting it all out of my brain and into a system, I can clear some mental space — and maybe ease that fog that always comes before full burnout.

What I’m Reminding Myself Right Now
This journey out of burnout isn’t a straight line. It’s more like waves — sometimes calm, sometimes crashing, but always moving forward.
Here’s what I’m trying to remember:
- Falling back into old patterns doesn’t erase progress.
- Rest isn’t something you “earn.” It’s something you need.
- You can love what you do and still need to slow down.
- Noticing the signs sooner is progress.
So maybe burnout recovery isn’t about never slipping again.
Maybe it’s about recognizing the warning signs, showing yourself grace, and finding your way back a little faster each time.
Before You Go…
If you’ve ever felt like you were finally getting better — only to slip right back into burnout — please know you’re not alone. Healing isn’t a straight line, and it doesn’t mean you’re failing if you have to start over.
Take a moment to think about your own subtle signs of healing — those small shifts that tell you you’re finding your way back to yourself. Maybe it’s energy, laughter, creativity, or simply breathing easier. Hold onto those signs. They’re proof you can find balance again — even if it takes time.

🌿This was Part 6 of the _Burnout to Balance Series 🌿
In Part 7, I’ll be sharing how my view of success completely changed after burnout — and why I no longer measure it by how busy or productive I am. It’s a more honest, peaceful version of success, and I can’t wait to tell you what that shift has looked like.
