Are you just starting your fitness journey and a little overwhelmed with all of the fitness apps out there? I sure was. There are so many out there, it took me a few weeks to find ones that work for me. I’m going to share with you my top 2 fitness apps. Maybe another time I will go into detail on other apps. But to minimize confusion, I will tell you which 2 apps I use daily.

Top Calorie Counting App: My Fitness Pal

I have tried several calorie-counting apps. Some of them were too expensive. Some apps were horrible at finding the foods I put in. My fitness Pal has been the best at finding the foods and the most accurate on how many calories they have. Some of the other apps either over or underestimated the calories in food.

In MyFitnessPal, you tell it your height and weight, what your goal weight is, and it will tell you how many calories you should eat each day. Remember, this is a recommendation though. Not medical advice.

Now I will say that My Fitness Pal is a paid app. However, it does have a free version. If you are interested in a breakdown of the foods such as nutrients, fats, and macros, you will need the paid version. If you just want to count the calories, then the free version will be fine for you.

Another thing I like about this app is the recipes! My Fitness Pal has several healthy and low-calorie recipes. And yes you can access these with the free version. When I’m looking for a meal under 400 calories and not sure what to make, I can get on this app and find something yummy. And it’s easy to add this to my daily intake on the app.

Another really cool feature of this app is the friends section. 2 other girls and I from work all downloaded this app and played around with it. My friend discovered that we can add each other on there and keep each other motivated! If I forget to log my meals for the day, she can see that and send me a message reminding me to log my food.

On the premium version, you will have access to workout routines!

If none of your friends are on the app, that is ok. It also has an online community for motivation. Here you can ask questions and get help from other members on anything health and weight loss related. And once again, this is available on the free version.

When it comes to logging your food, you do have to type it in and search for it on the free version. With the paid version, you can scan barcodes of what you eat! I have truly considered switching to the paid version, just for that feature alone. It makes logging your food so much easier and faster!

Top Exercise App: Better-Me

I know that I have mentioned this app a few times before. That is because it has it all!

  • Calorie counting
  • Menu Plan (for an extra fee)
  • Fasting schedule
  • Water Tracker
  • Step counter
  • Daily exercises

I Will start with saying that this is paid-app. There is a Monthly fee. I think I pay about $26. Now before you run away from it, let me tell you why I think it is worth it.

As I said earlier, this app literally has everything in one.

This app has a calorie counter. You tell the app your current weight and goal weight, it tells you how many calories you should have in a day. This app does have an option to scan barcodes, but I have found that it is often wrong. However, if I search for my food item, I can find it with no problem.

In this app, you can also track your water intake. And when you first open the app, it is right there to see. This is a pretty cool feature because it reminds me to drink my water.

This app also has a fasting schedule if you are interested in that. It can send you reminders about when to eat and when to fast.

Now my favorite part: the exercises! Better-Me has hundreds of exercises for all fitness levels. Some are 5 minutes, 10, 20, 30 or 60 minutes. There are so many to choose from. They are separated into categories like somatic exercises, HIT exercises, walking, dancing, wall Pilates, etc. They also have challenges that you can join. Each day it recommends a 20 minute workout to target my stomach. If I don’t like that one, I just pick a different one. But I usually just do what it recommends. I can do 20 minutes a day. And these exercises are not too hard for me to do as a beginner.

In this app, you can also keep track of your weight, so you can see your progress.

Conclusion

Better-Me also has a step counter. You can choose what your daily goal is. Mine is 10,000 steps a day. For those who have an iPhone and Apple watch, you can connect them. So the step counter will be accurate. For those who don’t like me, it only counts steps when it is in my pocket. So the step count is not accurate for me. But that is ok because my watch tells me. It is nice to open this app and see the step counter, it reminds me to get my steps in.

Now you know my top 2 favorite apps for fitness. I use both of these apps every day. I will say I’ve lost 10 pounds so far. So they must be working right? I hope that this has helped you.
